The successful man will profit from his mistakes and try again in different way – Dale Carnegie
As we approach the end of 2015, I am inviting you to think about the possibility of adopting a new perspective for 2016, a new way to look at things. If you are among the people who wait till the end of the year to evaluate your last year’s progress in terms of what worked well, what didn’t work and what could have been done differently and then list all the possible excuses that did not allow you to reach your resolutions, then this small note is for you!
Instead of being hard on yourself for not achieving your resolutions from last year, remind yourself that any resolution incorporates a change. Change is a process that takes time, patience and perseverance. With some planning, positive thinking and motivation, the encouraging impact of your new resolutions will not only affect your New Year but the rest of your life as well. Believing in yourself and in your capabilities is the key.
Changing perspective is another key. Your current perspective is creating your daily reality. And until you make a conscious effort to take a different perspective on situations and things, not much is going to change in your life irrespective of what else you do.
So how can you get a new perspective and create something different and better for the year 2016?
Shifting perspective requires periodic training and practice. Here-below is a set of questions to ask yourself to help you become more aware of the possibilities. In regards to your unachieved 2015 resolutions, ask yourself:
- Was my resolution realistic?
- Did it depend solely on me or on others?
- Were all the resources needed available?
- Was it really motivating me?
- Do I still want to achieve it?
- What else is also possible?
- What would it take to achieve the resolution?
- How will achieving it impact my life for the better?
Adopting a different perspective will support your happiness and can assist you to create different outcomes for the upcoming year.
