Gratitude is a feeling or an attitude expressing thankfulness for what one has and will have. Recent studies suggest that gratitude is linked to well-being and happiness. Grateful people are happier, healthier, and optimistic and are able to cope positively with changes, challenges and difficulties they experience in life. They feel in general more satisfied with their environment and relationships as they constantly cultivate self acceptance and faith.
Gratitude can be deliberately nurtured and can increase levels of contentment among those who cultivate it within their souls. Regular practice of gratitude opens the heart and activates positive emotions within the brain. In addition, it eases distress and broadens one’s thinking patterns so one develops a larger and more expansive view of one’s life.
To start bringing gratitude to your life, take a moment today and focus your attention on the positive things in your life, the situations, the experiences and people that you cherish and appreciate. You may want to start a gratitude journal in which you write down your blessings and a number of things you are thankful for, a great way to show gratitude and to keep yourself in a daily positive state. Be creative and challenge yourself to find new ones every time you write!
Practice expressing small acts of gratitude and thanks to your family, friends and the people you encounter daily by saying simple smiley thank you , telling someone face to face how much they mean to you, writing thank you notes, showing someone unconditional support… Practicing and expressing Gratitude especially to others can lead to feelings of love, appreciation and compassion.
